The 3.14-mile run on March 14 was a fun way to celebrate National Pi Day and get moving. More than 100 Cobbers walked or ran in the pleasantly warm weather. Even Kernel Cobb made an appearance to cheer on the students.
The event was sponsored by Campus Entertainment Commission’s group fitness series, which also includes Zumba and yoga.
“We really try to get a variation of things, so there’s something for everyone,” says Ashley Gilles ’12, White Bear Lake, Minn., who is the head of the heath and wellness part of CEC.
The health and wellness committee thought Pi Day offered a fantastic opportunity to have a fun fitness event. The first 100 participants received a commemorative T-shirt in addition to pie.
Gabi Hennen ’14, St. Cloud, Minn., says she signed up for fun and to get into running again. Henry Dobbs ’15, Moorhead, is on the cross-country team but was motivated to run by the free shirt and pie.
And while the complimentary pie may not help calorie counters, it was a great incentive to get moving and a perfect treat to celebrate Pi Day.
“It was a great time to just get out and run for fun,” says Dobbs.
